I found this recipe on the foodnetwork..and changed a couple of ingredients.. to lower fat and sodium.. Nice comfort food in the cold.. and very tasty..
I found an extremely high rated recipe for German Apple cake on Allrecipes.com and adapted it by using applesauce instead of oil, honey instead of sugar and half wheat flour instead of all white.
I liked it, however next time I will either only use 3/4 cup of honey or 1.5 cups of brown sugar instead of the honey. I would also chop the apples smaller than I did in this one.
Other than that a tasty and moist treat that is guilt free none the less.
This wonderful dish combines all things Oktoberfest. Not very healthy if you're watching your sodium. If anyone can think of a way to make this healthier please let me know.
My dad taught me this recipe, and I've loved it ever since! (This of course is a healthier version of the one he taught me though.)
This traditional German dish is typically served with a delicate buttery-textured pasta called Spaetzle.
Delicious authentic German dish. Very unique taste and very satisfying. Takes a little time to prep, but the results are amazing.
In the early '70's my friend Sue introduced me to her Stuffed Cabbage Rolls. I loved them, but not enjoying anything more than chopping stuff and throwing in a pot, I've only made them two or three times. I've been craving them lately so I thought I'd try turning her recipe into a soup. It is packed with taste and nutrients, low in calories and cost and is very filling!
