I am not a kidney bean fan, so I substitute with a mix adding 1/2 chili beans and 1/2 baked beans. Will give a slight sweetness to the background flavor. You can also dress this recipe up with some jalapenos, shredded cheese, sour cream (low fat of course), or add it to salad, baked potato or it is great used in chili mac!
