Bariatric Lynn's 15 Bean Soup w/Turkey Ham
The trick to using Turkey Ham in slow cooking soups and stews is to not put it in early or else the ham flavoring cooks out of the turkey and the end result is not especially tasty, especially when expecting it to be ham-flavored. Yet I stil want a ham flavoring to this bean soup so I added 4 ounces of turkey ham chopped into 1/4-inch cubes to the bean soup at the start of the cooking process and added 12 ounces of 3/4-inch cubes just a few minutes from serving the soup. The small amount of turkey ham added early provided the ham flavoring and the small cube size mixed right in with the beans and took on the flavoring of the beans so there was no problem with the taste.
If you cannot find the Hurst's 15 Bean Soup in your grocery store, you may contact the company at www.hambeens.com or by calling 1-800-426-2336. Another comparable bean soup mix could also be used if the nutrition information is comparable.
I have given instructions for the traditional method for making this soup and a quick method but I do not recommend the quick method because it can cause more digestive problems for people. Beans cooked slowly for a long time significantly reduces any digestive problems or flatulence.
